There’s a view in New York City, USA, that no-one should miss. From above, upon the island of Manhattan, the Empire State Building showing off, right there in the middle!
Best viewed from the Top of the Rock, at Rockefeller Center, between 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. After 2 aborted climb because there was too many people and we couldn’t buy our entrance tickets on the spot, we finally decided to buy them online in order to have a timed ticket and be sure to have space. Included in the U$34 are 2 digital photos taken by the photographs there (the second picture of the gallery would be one of them).
Up there, besides the view I greatly enjoy each and every time with the same amount of joy, I had a lot of fun watching people about and their reactions to the view. A lot of selfies were taken that day! But then again, what else can you do when it’s so beautiful out there?
It was Raul’s first time up at the top too. I’m glad I got to take him there in spite of his wanting to go to the Empire State Building instead. The view is as beautiful there but the Icon is missing from it since you’d be standing on it. Everyone will tell you the same: the best view is from the Rockefeller Center!
Have you been there? What do you feel when you’re up there?

Awesome, though when we visited the Eiffel Tower I was happy to look after the bags while the family went up. I’m a total scaredy cat.
Some people have to watch the bags; other have to climb up. 😛
So many beautiful photos. My favorite is of Raul sitting on the ledge. Yikes!. And yes I have been to the Tope of the Rock and the views are stunning.
ahaha he’s sitting on the ledge … upon the terrace, nowhere near the void! 😉 I’m glad you enjoyed the view again!
Nice post, as always, Julie. With my head for heights (not), I was glad you did it for me 🙂
And will every time, I love heights! 😉
I never was there, but I think it’s time for!
You would enjoy the view, it’s definitely breath-taking!
Wow, what a great selection of shots, I love the ones featuring the other people….reminds me of my 40th birthday, planned it in advance, we were going to go to the top of the WTC but other people had other plans, my birthday was in December 2001, I did take similar photos from the top of the Empire State, and there was still smoke in the air. I have some shots taken at Ground Zero when the fires were still burning. Seeing your photos brought it back, the good and the sad memories. I went back in 2005 and it was all quite different. I can’t wait to go again and see the Freedom tower. Thank you for sharing these.
Andy
You were there at a sad time, but what has become of it all today is such a peaceful place full of memories and respect. I showed some of it recently in another post you might like:

I’m glad you had a good time viewing my pictures and that it brought back good memories to you. See you soon around here!
I will have to go back and see it and some day I will fund my old photos (actual film not digital) and get them online somewhere… see you around 🙂
What a beautiful set of photographs. The first one is really fab, I love the minimalist style of it, and the rest really give a sense of the emotion and the excitement of being up there. I never did climb the Rockefeller when I was in NY, I climbed the Empire State Building, but I didn’t think to go for a view that actually included it in the skyline… I will definitely do this when I’m next in NY.
Hey Laura! Thank you so much for dropping by and taking the time to review all the pictures! I’m happy to know some of them caught your eye in such a fashion!
I too first climbed the Empire State Building the first time I was in NYC but was then told to try the view from the Rockefeller… wouldn’t trade it back for the world, now.
All rooftops bars and terraces downtown also offer a similar yet lower view with only a drink to pay; try both options next time you’re there! I’m sure you’ll love it! 😉
That’s fab, thank you for such good tips, I will definitely look out for those! 🙂
Beautiful shots! We’ve only been on top of the Empire State Building, and good point…when you’re standing on top of the building, you can’t see it. In Paris I went on top of the Montparnasse Tower to snap pics with the Eiffel Tower in the background. My camera wasn’t that great back then, but the pictures were still pretty.
Exactly! when in Paris, I truly enjoy the view from the Arc de Triomphe or even from Montmartre, with all the rooftops AND the Eiffel Tower in the background. But, climbing the tower is such a great adventure too that sometimes, I just do both! 😉
Is this a contribution to Word Press’ Photography 101 prompt for today? It should be; LANDMARK is the them.
It wasn’t in the first place but I might add it to the course for today, you’re right!
Thanks for making me think of it! It wasn’t in the first place since the post was ready way before today’s theme was given but it did fit, so I added it to the class (as you might have seen)
