Je n’ai jamais été très à l’aise pour prendre les gens en photos pendant mes voyages. En même temps, c’est quelque chose que je souhaite vraiment apprendre à faire car les voyages, ce ne sont pas seulement les lieux que nous visitons mais aussi les gens que nous rencontrons.
Fortement inspirée par la série « Humans of New York, » que vous avez peut-être déjà aperçu sur Facebook, j’essaie aujourd’hui de vous présenter un peu les gens qui nous ont montré qui ils sont et comment ils vivent à Cuba. Très loin du travail de Brandon – le créateur de HONY – bien entendu, car je n’ai pas forcément directement interagis avec chaque personne. Cependant, je suis heureuse d’avoir trouvé un petit quelque chose avec quoi commencer.
J’espère m’améliorer avec le temps. Être moins timide et demander aux gens.

I was never truly at ease with taking portraits while travelling. At the same time, it is something I really really want to do, because travelling is not only about the places we go but also about the people we meet.
Deeply inspired by the series « Humans of New York, » that you might have caught a glimpse of on Facebook, I’m trying today to show you some of the people that showed us who they are and what it’s like to live in Cuba. Nothing compared to Brandon’s work – the creator of HONY – obviously, since I didn’t automatically directly interact with all of the people above. Nevertheless, I’m happy to have found something to start with.
I hope I can do better as time goes by. Be less shy and ask people.
The pictures were taken in La Havana, Santa Clara, Cienfuegos, Trinidad and Viñales.

Nunca me sentí cómoda para sacar fotos de gente mientras estoy viajando. Al mismo tiempo, es algo que verdaderamente me atrae, porque viajar no solo se trata de los lugares que visitamos sino también de la gente que encontramos.
Muy inspirada por la serie « Humans of New York, » que tal vez han visto en las páginas de Facebook, intento hoy mostrarles un poco de la gente que nos mostró quiénes son y cómo viven en Cuba. Nada en comparación con el trabajo de Brandon – el creador de HONY – por supuesto, porque no interactué directa y automaticamente con toda la gente de arriba. Sin embargo, estoy feliz de haber encontrado algo por donde empezar.
Espero mejorarme con el tiempo. Estar menos tímida y preguntar a la gente.

These are lovely photos. In my experience, Cuba is perhaps one of the easiest places to take street photographs and portraits. I loved it there and want to go back, via Mexico, of course.
Thanks! I’m still shy in asking or taking candid portraits in the streets but Cuba was a fun place to start. I loved doing so in Myanmar too, people are super photogenic and smile at the camera always!
I think street photography is harder in « first world countries ». People have more of an attitude.

Continue comme ça, elles sont très chouettes tes photos. Je suis un peu dans le même cas que toi, j’ai beaucoup de mal à demander aux gens, si je peux les prendre en photos, à moins de les connaître 😦
Va falloir qu’on s’y mette sérieusement toutes les 2! 😉 Les résultats sont souvent beaucoup plus positifs qu’on ne croit…

You already did great! It needs some courage to ask strangers to pose for a photo or to simply ask if you may take some freely. I love the ones you took and I love that kind of capturing life moments!
Thank you, Erika! I love the first results but I still feel terribly shy just having the thought of having to ask… Raúl was very helpful that time and also asked around for me when I felt really awkward but at the same time really wanted to take the pic’…
